Nir obtained his B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and Biology from Tel-Aviv University in 2014 with high distinction. He did his Ph.D. in the lab of Prof. Doron Shabat, where he worked on the design and synthesis of novel bright chemiluminescent compounds used for bioimaging. In 2019, he joined Prof. Tom Muir’s lab at the Department of Chemistry at Princeton University, where, using a combination of organic synthesis and chromatin semisynthesis, he investigated the roles of histone ADP-ribosylation in the DNA damage response. Subsequently, he developed a photo-proximity labeling method, LITag, for studying protein-protein interactions in living cells. Nir was a Robert Black Fellow of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. In October 2023, he joined the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion as an assistant professor.
